Family of Rebecca Payne To Offer $25,000 RewardThe family of slain college student Rebecca Payne along with Northeastern University and Legal Sea Foods, Rebecca’s former employer, are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her death.
The Payne family and friends are pleading with the public to assist the Boston Police Homicide Unit in solving the murder of their only daughter.
“We know that there are people who have valuable information, so we ask individuals to look deep into their hearts and help us bring the person responsible for this horrible and senseless act to justice,” said Rebecca’s father, Nicholas Payne.
On Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at approximately 6:50 am, Boston Police received a call for a body found at 170 Parker Hill Ave, in the Mission Hill Neighborhood. Inside an apartment, officers found a woman who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The woman was identified as Rebecca Payne, 22, of New Milford, Connecticut.
Rebecca graduated from New Milford High School and was a senior at Northeastern University, where she was studying Athletic Training. She was known for her smile and positive attitude and dedication to doing her work the best it could be done. It was thought that she might have been one of the future leaders of her chosen profession. Always making friends wherever she went, she was a popular counselor at Camp Washington summer camp for a number of years and her Boston friends were even able to overlook her being a Yankees fan.
Boston Police homicide detectives are actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding Rebecca’s death. The preliminary investigation has determined that there were no signs of forced entry into her apartment. Several witnesses reported hearing gunshots between 2:00 and 3:00 am, although, the police were not contacted at that time. Investigators have not yet determined whether Rebecca knew her assailant. Detectives continue too follow the evidence and are actively pursuing all information that comes forward.
