MAN WITH GUN ARRESTED IN JAMAICA PLAINAt about 5:35pm, on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a person (a black male dressed in black shorts and a red shirt) displaying a gun in the area of 3205 Washington Street. On arrival, officers spoke to witnesses who stated that the suspect entered a store at the above-mentioned address and got into an argument with an individual inside the store. According to witnesses, during the course of argument, the suspect lifted his shirt to reveal a firearm and demanded money he says was owed to him. When the victim refused, the suspect fled the store.
Responding officers soon located an individual matching the description of the suspect attempting to enter a silver motor vehicle. While the suspect was in the process of entering the car, officers observed the suspect move in such a way so as to suggest he was attempting to hide something by stuffing the object in or under the front seat of the car. Officers, with guns drawn, instructed the suspect to exit the motor vehicle with his arms and hands visible. Once the suspect was outside the vehicle, officers conducted a frisk of the suspect for weapons. As a result of the frisk, officers located and recovered an extendable baton. A search of the suspect’s motor vehicle enabled officers to recover a holster and two black firearms. The firearms or replica firearms turned out to be BB guns.
Officers arrested Michael Collins, 35, of Jamaica Plain and charged him with Assault with intent to Rob while Armed.

At about 2:25am, on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) were patrolling in the area of Cambridge Street footbridge when several witnesses flagged them down and stated that they observed two individuals breaking overhead lights on the footbridge. When officers looked in the direction of the footbridge, officers observed two suspects jumping up and breaking lights while holding an unknown object. When officers approached the suspects, both suspects quickly confessed that they were responsible for breaking the lights. One of the suspects stated, “It was a stupid thing (to do).” Officers arrested James Forde, 21, of Brighton and Gerard Maher, 21, of Brighton and charged both with the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property.

At about 5:49am, on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a crime in progress in the area of 176 Federal Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated, while he was about to enter his car, he observed an unknown individual sleeping in the front seat. Victim further told officers that his personal belongings were strewn around the car. Officers then woke the suspect. When the suspect awoke, officers arrested Jeffery Philips, 24, of Lowell and charged him with Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle (Night time).
