TOW TRUCK DRIVER ASSAULTED IN MATTAPANAt about 6:11pm, on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, officers from Area E-18 (Hyde Park) responded to a radio call for a person holding a knife in the area of 15 Bismarck Street in Mattapan. On arrival, officers spoke to witnesses who stated that a tow truck employee was in the process of towing an illegally parked car when the owner of the car came out and confronted him with a knife. Officers spoke to victim (tow truck driver) who stated he was attempting to tow the car when the suspect (owner of the car) exited a nearby residence and began arguing with him. The victim states that the suspect then entered the passenger side of his motor vehicle, pulled out a knife and began threatening him with it. According to the victim, while he was backing away from the suspect, the suspect entered his tow truck and removed a GPS system and car jack. The victim states that the suspect used the car jack to strike the right side of his tow truck. Officers observed a dent and what appeared to be freshly chipped paint on the right side of the victim’s truck. Officers also located the victim’s GPS system inside the suspect’s car.
When asked to explain how the victim’s GPS system ended up in his car, the suspect stated, “He was taking something of mine so I took something of his.\” Officers arrested Reynold Best, 42, of Randolph and charged him with Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife), Larceny (over $250.00) and Destruction of Personal Property.
PEDESTRIAN STRUCK IN FRONT OF 39 DALTON STREET
At about 10:16pm, on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a pedestrian struck in front of 39 Dalton Street (the Sheraton Hotel). On arrival, officers located a 48 year-old female lying in the driveway of the hotel. According to witnesses, the victim was walking across the driveway when a motor vehicle backed into her. Victim was transported to Brigham & Women’s Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
PEDESTRIAN STRUCK IN THE AREA OF KING STREET IN DORCHESTER
At about 8:20PM, on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) were on patrol in the area of King Street when they observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed. While following the motorcycle, officers observed the operator of the motorcycle began to slow the bike. At this point, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in order to stop the motorcycle. With the motorcycle stopped, officers exited their cruiser and began to approach the motorcycle. However, as officers were approaching, the operator sped off down King Street towards Adams Street. Upon returning to their cruiser, officers looked up and watched the motorcycle blow through the intersection of King and Adams Streets without stopping. As the motorcycle was blowing through the intersection, officers observed what appeared to be a collision with an unknown object. As officers got closer to the accident scene, officers observed a white female lying on the ground. According to witnesses, the female was crossing the street when she was struck by a motorcycle. The victim was transported to the Boston Medical Center where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Approximately 40 yards up the street, officers located an abandon, black motorcycle lying on its side. A search of the immediate area enabled officers to locate the operator of the motorcycle, with cuff marks on his jeans, standing at the intersection of Semont Road and Dorchester Avenue. When asked to explain his reason for fleeing, the suspect stated, “I didn’t have a license .. so .. (when) I saw the cruiser behind me .. I messed up.\”
Officers arrested Leigh Perry, 36, of Dorchester and charged him with Leaving the Scene (after causing personal injury), Driving to Endanger, Refusal to Submit to a Police Officer, Operating without Being Licensed and Operating an Unregistered/Uninsured Motorcycle.
