GUN ARREST MADE IN ROXBURYAt about 1:08am, on Saturday, June 21, 2008, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a fight in the area of 28 San Juan Street. While en route to the call, officers learned that one of the individuals involved in the altercation might be in possession of a firearm. On arrival, officers observed a black male running away from the scene of the incident. Officers noted as the suspect was running, the suspect was running and grabbing at his waist in such a way as to suggest he was carrying a firearm. When officers yelled at the suspect and instructed him to stop, the suspect ignored the officer’s instructions and continued running. While pursuing the suspect on foot, officers observed the suspect discard a black metal object believed to be a firearm. In short time, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. Upon apprehending the suspect, officers returned to the area where the suspect was seen discarding the black metal object. At this time, officers located and recovered a black firearm. When asked to produce a license to carry a firearm, the suspect stated, “I don’t have one.” Officers arrested Abran Hernandez, 18, of Jamaica Plain and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm & Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct
BROOKLINE CABBIE ARRESTED TRYING TO PILFER PASSENGERS IN BOSTON
At about 11:45pm, on Thursday, June 19, 2008, officers assigned to the Hackney Unit observed a Brookline Red Cab operating along Cambridge Street in Boston. While officers were observing the cab, the cab pulled to the side of the street and attempted to pick up four passengers. Since the cab is licensed out of Brookline, and not Boston, soliciting business within the city limits is prohibited. Officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. Once stopped, officers arrested the operator of the cab, John Valmas, 53, of Allston and charged him with violating the Boston Vehicle for Hire Ordinance.
