At about 11:45pm, on Thursday, June 19, 2008, officers assigned to the Hackney Unit observed a Brookline Red Cab operating along Cambridge Street in Boston. While officers were observing the cab, the cab pulled to the side of the street and attempted to pick up four passengers. Since the cab is licensed out of Brookline, and not Boston, soliciting business within the city limits is prohibited. Officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. Once stopped, officers arrested the operator of the cab, John Valmas, 53, of Allston and charged him with violating the Boston Vehicle for Hire Ordinance.
