A Message from Police Commissioner Ed DavisPROMOTIONS & NEW ASSIGNMENTS
The men and women of the Boston Police Department continue to do an outstanding job keeping our community safe. Our officers ongoing dedication to protect and serve the citizens of Boston is admirable and I applaud their efforts.
In keeping with my responsibility to ensure a command and accountability structure that fully supports our patrol force, I am pleased to announce the following promotions and new assignments. I am confident that the following initiatives will have a substantial impact in our efforts to reduce crime, decrease firearm violence and protect the quality of life for city residents.
• Deputy Superintendent Rafael Ruiz will be promoted to the rank of Superintendent and appointed to Night Commander. As Night Commander, Superintendent Ruiz will be reporting directly to Superintendent-in-Chief Robert Dunford. Deputy Ruiz, has 29 years with the Boston Police Department, joining the force as a Police Officer in 1979. He is currently serving as Zone 2 Commander overseeing Districts B2, B3, C6 and C11.
• Lieutenant Detective Colm Lydon will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent and assigned to the Office of Labor Relations. This Office is responsible for working with all Boston Police Unions, representing the Police Commissioner at employee collective bargaining negotiations, conferences and grievance discussions and for assisting in the development of policies regarding labor relations and negotiations. Lt. Detective Lydon has 25 years with the Boston Police Department, joining the force as a Police Officer in 1983. He is currently serving in the Bureau of Investigative Services, District D-4 Detectives.
• Sergeant Detective William Gross will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent and appointed to Zone 2 Commander, overseeing Districts B2, B3, C6 and C11. Currently Sgt. Det. Gross is assigned to the Bureau of Investigative Services, District C11 Detectives. He has 25 years with the Boston Police Department, joining the force as a Police Officer in 1985.
I believe each of them come to these new positions with a reputation of integrity, hard work, dedication to the Department and the communities we serve. They will make great contributions to the command staff and to their respective commands.
