LAPD CHIEF BILL BRATTON JOINS BPD COMMISSIONER ED DAVIS TO COMMEND OUTSTANDING YOUTH Chief Bratton And Commissioner Davis Recognize LAPD And BPD Marathon Teams For Their Outstanding Fundraising Efforts
WHO: Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis, LAPD Chief of Police William Bratton, LAPD & BPD Marathon Teams, Police Athletic League (PAL) Chairman Neil Rossi; Scholarship recipients
WHAT: Commissioner Davis and Chief Bratton, with donations provided by Operation Progress and PAL, will present scholarship checks to several deserving students from both the Los Angeles and Boston areas.
In addition to the scholarship presentation, the Commissioner’s Cup Trophy will be presented to the winning runner in this year’s BPD/LAPD Marathon Challenge. The Challenge included 25 Los Angeles officers against 25 officers from the BPD. The runner with the best time in this year’s marathon will be awarded the Commissioner’s Cup.
Members of both the LAPD and BPD Marathon Teams ran this year’s race to raise awareness and money for Operation Progress. Operation Progress, founded in 2000 by a group of LAPD officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force, was created to provide scholarship opportunities to good kids looking to better themselves educationally.
