ONE LESS SHOPLIFTER TAKES A BITE OUT OF CRIMEAt about 5:55pm, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a shoplifter at the Macy’s Department Store on Washington Street. On arrival, officers observed the suspect yelling profanities and threatening store employees. According to store employees, the suspect attempted to walk out of the store with a men’s suit. When employees tried to stop the suspect, the suspect attempted to punch and bite them. As officers approached the suspect, the suspect remained belligerent. After a brief struggle, officers arrested Augustine Andrews, 50, of Boston and charged him with Unarmed Assault, Larceny (over $250.00) and Disorderly Person.
A WALK IN THE PARK LANDS ONE IN POLICE CUSTODY
At about 12:02pm, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force observed an individual walking through Almont Park on Area B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester). Given the time of the day and the age of the individual, officers approached the suspect. When the suspect saw officers approaching, the suspect stopped quickly and clutched at something in the left pocket of his hooded sweatshirt. Due to training and education, officers immediately recognized the suspect’s actions to be consistent with someone attempting to conceal a firearm. A search of the suspect enabled officers to locate and seize a silver-colored firearm. Officers arrested Barkley Manuel, 17, of Mattapan and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
ATTEMPTED ROBBERY LANDS ONE BEHIND BARS
At about 4:10pm, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) were approached by a victim at the intersection of Rhoades and Blue Hill Avenue. The victim pointed across the street in the direction of 1156 Blue Hill Avenue where an individual was standing. According to the victim, the suspect had just robbed him. According to the victim, the suspect approached him holding a large white pipe in his hands and demanded his cell phone. When officers looked across the street, officers observed a black male holding a white pipe. As officers began to cross the street, the suspect began to run. After a short pursuit, officers were able to locate the suspect hiding behind a dumpster. After being positively identified by the victim, officers arrested a 16 year-old male from Dorchester and charged him with the Intent to Rob while Armed.
