Today at approximately 8:44am, officers responded to a call for a sexual assault on Lexington Street in East Boston. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the female victim who stated while she was walking she was approached from behind by a male. She was grabbed by the suspect and groped. The victim was able to break free and the suspect then fled.The victim was able to provide a detailed description, which police quickly broadcast over the radio. He was described as a Hispanic male, short black hair, medium build, wearing a diamond earring in his left ear, a black t-shirt with white and green lettering, jean shorts and carrying a black backpack with the letters RW.
“Safe Street Team” officers, who were working a paid detail, soon observed a Hispanic male fitting the description. Suspect was riding his bicycle on Condor Street heading towards Brooks Street. Officers approached the individual to conduct an inquiry when they noticed his black backpack with the letters RW. Officers were aware that weapons were used in prior assaults in East Boston and approached the suspect with caution. Officers requested permission to search the individual’s backpack and he consented. Inside the backpack, officers recovered a black t-shirt with green and white lettering.
Shortly thereafter, the victim positively identified the suspect. The suspect is identified as Carlos Alfredo Bonilla, 18, of East Boston. He was arrested and charged with Indecent Assault & Battery. He will be arraigned this afternoon at East Boston Court.
Currently detectives from the Sexual Assault Unit are investigating the possibility of Bonilla’s connection to previous incidents in East Boston.
The arresting officers were PO Alberto Santiago and PO Joel Rodriguez.
