K-9 Aids In Taking Down SuspectLast night at 9:04pm, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) observed three people running in the parking lot of the South Bay mall towards the rear of the Super 88 store. Officers were in the rear of the Super 88 and observed two male and a female yelling that a guy just stole their credit card from the Applebee’s restaurant. The suspect was described as a white male, medium build, bald and wearing a white chef’s cooking coat/shirt and was believed to have the woman’s credit card in his possession.
Officers gave several commands for the suspect to stop running or he would deploy his dog. The suspect continued to run down Boston Street. taking a left turn onto Harvest Street. The K-9 officer, along with his partner Tiburon, was chasing the suspect when the suspect took an aggressive stance towards the officer striking him in the face with his elbow. At that time the officer commanded his partner to take the suspect down. The suspect was apprehended at 172 Boston Street.
The victim went on to state that while they were waiting for the waitress to take their dinner bill, a white male dressed in a white chef’s coat walked up and asked, “Excuse me Ma’am may I take that for you?” The victim thought he was an Applebee’s employee and handed the male the bill and the credit card. They realized it was a scam as the suspect fled the restaurant and the family chased the suspect into the parking lot.
The suspect was transported to Boston Medical Center and treated for his injuries. Darren Killeen, 35, of Boston was arrested and charged with Larceny from the Person, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.
Two In Custody After Shots Fired
Early this morning around 3:30am, officers from District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a person breaking into 90 Heath Street. On arrival, officers heard several shots and observed two unknown individuals running from 90 Heath Street. Officers then observed the males stop between cars; one of the suspects had his hands in the air while facing the other suspect. At that time, officer observed one the suspects reach for something in his waistband. Both suspects took off running in different directions.
Officers chased one of the suspects through the project and heard a metal object hit the backside of the building at 25 Horanway. He was apprehended in the rear of 25 Horanway.
The second suspect was apprehended at 90 Bickford. Officers observed the suspect to be bleeding from the hand.
Officers spoke with the victim who stated that she heard someone trying to kick her door down.
James Smith, 29, of Jamaica Plain was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Dangerous Weapon Unlawfully Carried and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
The second suspect was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and treated for a non-life threatening injury. He will be charged at a later date.
