This morning members of the Boston Police Fugitive and Apprehension Unit along with investigators from the Sexual Assault Unit successfully affected the arrest of Monty Garrett, 50, of Boston. Garrett has been identified as the individual wanted in connection with the recent sexual assault that occurred in the South End.After a thorough and exhaustive investigation, Sexual Assault detectives yesterday applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Garrett.
On July 24, 2007 at approximately 12:00pm, Garrett forced his way into the victim\’s home in the area of Clarendon Street and Columbus Avenue. Garrett knocked on the victim\’s door and announced himself as a \”maintenance worker\”. He struggled with the victim and sexually assaulted her.
Immediately following the incident, detectives canvassed the area and released a suspect description to the public. In addition, investigators were able to obtain DNA evidence that was sent to the State Police Crime Lab for review. Yesterday afternoon lab results were returned linking Garrett to the crime.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to the State Police for their efforts in identifying Monty Garrett as the individual responsible for this horrific act.\”
Garrett will be charged with Aggravated Rape, Kidnapping, Assault and Battery on a Person over 60, Unarmed Robbery and Threats.
Mr. Garrett will be arraigned Monday morning in Boston Municipal Court.
