SUBJECT: 2007 DETECTIVES EXAMYou are all aware that on June 30, 2007, we held an exam for Detectives. The goal of that exam was to test Police Officers to fill essential vacant positions in the Detective rank.
In an effort to achieve this goal, the Department contracted with an outside firm to develop a fair test. It has come to my attention that the integrity of the exam was compromised. The men and women of this Department deserve a fair and equitable testing process.
Therefore, a new Detectives’ exam will be administered on October 27, 2007 to individuals who were present and took the prior exam.
I know this development, along with the delay in promotions, is very frustrating to many of you. It is to me as well.
In order to ensure that every officer has an equal and fair chance of being promoted, I have no alternative but to call for a new test.
I have directed the Bureau of Professional Standards to conduct an internal investigation into this matter.
The reading list will remain the same, with the exception of Practical Aspects of Interview and Interrogation, which is removed from the study material.
