Boston Police Conduct Undercover Sting to Catch Cycle CrookOn June 13, 2007, at approximately 7:45 pm, detectives and officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) began surveillance in the area of the Stop & Shop parking lot in Brigham Circle. The surveillance was conducted relative to a stolen bicycle. On June 2, 2007, the victim reported that her bicycle was stolen from her home. On June 11, 2007, the victim noticed what she believed to be her bike listed for sale on craigslist.com, a website where among other things bicycles are sold.
The victim set up a meeting with the seller who agreed to sell her the bicycle in the Stop & Shop parking lot. She alerted police to the situation.
At approximately 8:10 pm, the victim was standing in the parking lot with an undercover officer when two white males approached them and began a conversation about the bike.
One of the white males later identified as Daniel Holzer stated that he was the person the victim had spoken with on the phone and that he would now sell her the bike for $100.00. Holzer then began to unlock the bike with a key on his key chain. At this point, officers moved in and placed Daniel Holzer, 21, of Roxbury under arrest and charged with Larceny of a Bicycle Over $250.
The bicycle in question is a unique bike.
