Earlier today around 3:03pm, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a report of an attempted abduction in Franklin Park. Officers were told by the victim\’s family that the suspect attempted to abduct their 2-year-old child. Based on the description provided by the victim\’s family, officers searched the area for a black male wearing a black running suit with stripes.Officers soon observed an individual fitting that description sitting near the MBTA bus stop located at Seaver Street and Elm Hill Avenue. Officers did detect a strong odor of alcohol coming from the suspect. Officers then transported the suspect to the victim\’s family and they positively identified him.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect came into the park and sat down on a bench next to the victim\’s family. The victim\’s mother stated that her son had dropped a basketball and the suspect picked it up. The victim\’s mother then stated that the suspect appeared to be leading the child towards the basketball court. According to the family, they yelled to the suspect to stop. At that time, the suspect walked away. The child was unharmed in this incident.
The suspect was transported to District B-2 and is currently in protective custody. This incident is still under investigation.
