Multiple Shooting Incidents Leave Two Dead and One InjuredBPD Apprehend Homicide Suspects and Recover Numerous Firearms
On May 16, 2007 multiple shooting and other firearm-related incidents occurred in the City. The Boston Police Department, in conjunction with many community partners, is working tirelessly to stem gun violence. Below are details related to yesterday’s incidents and their current status. Last evening, officers recovered a total of nine firearms from city streets.
Incident Descriptions:
· At approximately 5:15pm, on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for shots fired on Ames Street in Dorchester. On arrival, officers located two victims, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The first victim, a male in his 20’s, was transported to Boston Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as Cordelro Andrade, 21, of Roxbury. Homicide detectives are currently investigating the facts and circumstances of the shooting. The second victim from the Ames Street incident is a 27 year-old female. She was rushed to Boston Medical Center and was treated for a gunshot wound to her leg. Her identity will not be released.
· At approximately 5:39pm, on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person shot at 495 Warren Street in Roxbury. Upon arrival, officers located Jerome Wells, 20, of Boston suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the Boston Medical Center where he later succumbed to injuries.
An alert officer in the vicinity witnessed part of the incident. The officer immediately called for assistance and detailed a description of the suspect’s vehicle. Soon two individuals were stopped in the described vehicle only several blocks away from the incident. As a result of the motor vehicle stop, two suspects were taken into custody and a firearm was recovered from Antonio Llamas, 19, of Malden. Llamas was charged with Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Nathaniel Greene, 22, of Roxbury was arrested and charged for being an Accessory After the Fact.
· At about 6:00pm, on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) were patrolling in the area of Slayton Way in Roxbury. While patrolling, officers observed four individuals hanging out in the hallway of one of the apartment buildings. When officers approached, one of the four individuals began to run. While following the suspect, officers observed the individual clutching at his waist area as if he were carrying a weapon. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested Curtis McClaine Porter, 20, of Mattapan and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and the Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
· At about 9:53pm, on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, officers from the Boston Police Mountain Bike Unit heard multiple gunshots in the area of Washington Street and Rosedale Street in Dorchester. Moments after hearing the shots, officers observed four suspects walking calmly away from the area where the shots had been fired. Officers further observed one of the suspects holding what appeared to be a firearm in his hand. Additionally, officers also observed two of the other suspects carrying gun-like objects in their waist area. As officers attempted to stop the suspects, the suspects began to run. While pursuing the suspects, one of the suspects turned and pointed a firearm directly at the officers. Officers again ordered the suspect to, “Drop the gun!” Instead, the suspects continued to flee. Officers pursued three of the suspects to the front of an apartment building on Lyndhurst Street. Officers arrested three 15 year-old males from Dorchester and charged all three with the Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, Trespassing, and Receiving Stolen Property. Additionally, the suspect who pointed a firearm at the officers was charged with Assaulting a Police Officer with a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm). Officers also recovered three firearms.
· At about 10:07pm, on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, detectives from the Boston Police responded to 37 Wales Street in Dorchester as part of an ongoing investigation. On arrival, detectives attempted to gain entrance to an apartment at the above address. Once inside the apartment, detectives heard one of the individuals making noise behind a hallway door. Specifically, detectives heard a loud thud as if something heavy had hit the floor. Detectives then went to that area and recovered a blue shoebox containing 3 firearms.
Officers then arrested Robert Adams, 27, of Dorchester, and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
· On May 15, 2007 officers from District B2 (Roxbury) secured executed a search warrant at 296 Dudley Street. Officers recovered a loaded firearm, ammunition and a substance that appeared to be crack cocaine.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis stated, “The Boston Police Department continues to mount an aggressive and strategic response to put an end to gun violence. In the coming days, the community will continue to see an increased police presence and the deployment of specialized units to identified areas of concern. I commend the ongoing hard work and sacrifice made every day by our dedicated officers. We will continue to work closely with our faith-based and community-based organizations to increase public safety and protect quality of life for all city residents.”
