BIKE UNIT ASSISTS IN ARRESTAt about 6:00pm, on Friday, April 19, 2007, officers from the Tactical Bike Unit observed an individual wanted for trespassing on police property. When officers observed the suspect in question, he was on roller blades. As such, when officers approached him, the suspect fled on roller blades. After a short pursuit, the bike officers were able to apprehend the suspect.
Officers then recovered and seized a firearm from the suspect’s person. Officers arrested Osvaldir Mendes, 20, of Roxbury, and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
WRONG PLACE TO PULL A FALSE FIRE ALARM
At about 8:53am, on Friday, April 20, 2007, officers, working the front desk at Boston Police Headquarters, were approached by an individual looking to lodge a complaint against the Pine Street Inn. According to the individual, he was ordered to leave the shelter after pulling a false fire alarm. The individual also stated he had some personal belongings, still at the shelter and he wanted to retrieve them.
Officers told the individual that he needed to head down to the District D-4 police station (South End). Once there, officers from D-4 could then escort the individual to the shelter where he could recover his belongings. The individual became combative and demanded to speak to “the person in charge”. At this point, officers requested that the individual exit the building. However, as the individual exited Police Headquarters, he pulled the fire alarm.
As a result, the building was evacuated and Eric Greenwood, 26, of Eugene, Oregon, was arrested and charged with being a Disorderly Person.
ARREST MADE IN SOUTH BOSTON
At about 9:55am, on Friday, April 20, 2007, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) received a radio call for an individual who had just stolen money from the cash register at a barbershop on Boston Street.
En route to the call, officers were given a description of the suspect. The description had been called in by an off-duty police officer. Suspect described as a 5’10”, white male with blonde hair and freckles, wearing a black fleece and blue jeans. Officers then located an individual fitting that description. The suspect was brought back to the barbershop where witnesses positively identified the suspect. Officers arrested 19 year-old Daniel Smith and charged him with Larceny.
