Alert Tellers Assist Officers in Apprehending Bank Robbery Suspect

About 9:18am today, officers from District 2 responded to 572 Columbia Rd. in Dorchester for a bank robbery in progress. While en route, officers were provided with a description of the suspect as being a black male with a scraggly beard and a green sweater type coat.On arrival officers noticed that the door to the bank was closed, were allowed entry by the bank manager and immediately observed the described suspect in the bank. The suspect was detained by officers who then interviewed witnesses and victims. Officers spoke to the above noted individuals, determined that the suspect had walked into the bank and handed a teller a note indicating that he wanted money, and was in possession of a gun. The teller complied with the suspect’s request but also alerted other employees of the robbery in progress. Based on the actions of the brave teller, other tellers notified police who responded prior to the suspect’s departure from the bank.
The suspect, Brian C. Miller, 51, of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Armed Bank Robbery, found to be in possession of the stolen money and officers also recovered the notes that were passed to the teller.
