This afternoon at about 1:38pm, a Sergeant assigned to District 3 heard multiple gunshots coming from the Hazelton Street area of Mattapan. As the Sergeant proceeded toward Hazelton Street, he observed a black male walking up Hazelton Street away from Harvard Street. When the suspect observed the police car, he turned around and ran in the direction that he was originally coming from. The Sergeant began to pursue the suspect on foot and lost sight of him. A witness reported to the Sergeant that the person he was chasing ran into a back yard of a blue house on the corner and pointed to the dwelling. After the Sergeant checked the back yard, he was informed by another witness that the armed suspect was inside the hallway of 78 Westmore Street with a female. A perimeter was set up and residents were evacuated while Negotiators and the Entry and Apprehension Team Members arrived. After one hour of securing the perimeter, the suspect voluntarily exited the dwelling and was placed under arrest. After placing the male under arrest, a female exited the hallway and was secured by officers. A firearm was recovered from the hallway of 78 Westmore Street. With information from a witness, B3 Detectives discovered that while the Sergeant was pursuing the suspect, out of view from the Sergeant, the suspect was holding the firearm in a raised and outstretched position. The witness stated that the suspect appeared to be waiting for the Sergeant to turn the corner. The Sergeant became distracted speaking with possible witnesses, and the suspect ran into 78 Moreland Street. Antoine Hicks, 19, of Mattapan will be arraigned tomorrow in the Dorchester District Court where he will be charged with a second offense of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm.
