On December 22, 2006 at approximately 6:05pm, officers from District 18 responded to 631 Cummins Highway in Roslindale on a report of a person shot. On arrival, officers located two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he died a short time later. The victim has been identified as 14-year-old Emmanuel Saintil of Mattapan.The second victim was also transported to the Boston Medical Center Pediatric Unit, where he is being treated for a non-life threatening injury. No identifying information about this individual will be released.
This incident does not appear to be a random assault. Boston Police continue to actively investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding this shooting. At this time, the suspect is believed to have approached the victims on foot, shooting both individuals from a close proximity.
Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis stated, “As with all homicides, our focus is to quickly obtain as much information related to this incident as possible. The accuracy and timeliness of intelligence is critical to the investigation.” Commissioner Davis added, “The significance of Emmanuel Saintil’s age is not lost on investigators. I wish to extend our sympathy to Emmanuel’s family for their difficult loss particularly during this time of year. The Boston Police Department shares the objective and desire with Emmanuel’s family to find the person responsible for this tragedy. I encourage anyone with information to contact the police.”
Boston Police detectives are asking any witnesses to come forward. In addition, homicide investigators are urging people that were in the area, or who may have been riding on an M.B.T.A. bus at the time of the shooting, and who may have information about a black male wearing a gold or yellow hooded jacket, to contact them at 617-343-4470 or by calling the Crime Stoppers tip line at 800-494-TIPS.
