At approximately 11:42am, officers responded to 414 Tremont Street in the South End for a report of a larceny. Upon arrival, officers learned that a suspect entered the establishment, jumped on a table, grabbed a purse and fled in a green Ford pickup. A radio broadcast went out with a description and officers searched the immediate area to no avail.The suspect was spotted at 445 Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester at about 12:20pm and upon noticing police, David Butt, 37, of Foxborough, attempted to flee in the same pickup truck, striking a police cruiser at Dorchester Avenue & Ashmont Street. Butt then continued down Dorchester Avenue until he collided with a steel barrier in the rear of 1880 Dorchester Avenue, at which point he exited the vehicle and climbed onto the roof of a building at Beale Street & Dorchester Avenue. After approximately fifteen minutes, Butt came down from the roof and was placed under arrest.
Charges are as follows: Unarmed Robbery, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Destruction of Personal Property & Operating Under the Influence of Drugs. Butt will appear in Dorchester District Court tomorrow.
