An off-duty officer traveling on Hyde Park Avenue last night observed three cars speeding past him swerving in and out off traffic and weaving across marked lanes. One of the vehicles, a 2000 Honda Civic being driven by Olavio Leite, 19, of Roslindale, lost control striking the median strip and a light pole head on. After hitting the pole, the Honda slid across the street sideways striking the off duty officer’s car. Leite was taken to Faulkner Hospital for minor injuries and cited for speeding, failure to stay in marked lanes and negligent operation. A second car involved in the incident, a 1997 Honda Civic driven by Jonathan Sierra, 17, of Roslindale, was stopped at Ramsdell Avenue and Hyde Park Avenue. Sierra was cited for speeding, lane change made unsafely and negligent operation. The off-duty officer was not injured.
Taggers Arrested in Brighton and Hyde Park
At 6:00pm last evening officers in Brighton observed two males walking on Chestnut Hill Avenue carrying a bag covered in spray-paint. Believing the two were looking for a spot to tag, the officers set up surveillance of the area and caught the two in the act of tagging a wall behind the skating rink on Chestnut Hill Avenue. Peter Grillo, 20, and Samuel Nessenthale, 19, both of Brighton, were arrested and a bag of spray paint cans and multiple spray nozzles were seized as evidence.
Later at 10:00pm in Hyde Park, officers responded to the area Business Street on a report of kids spray-painting in the skate park. Officers organized a controlled response along with other units, anticipating the suspects would run upon seeing the police. Two Roslindale Juvenile males were quickly caught as they tried to run after officers observed them tagging a wall with spray paint inside the park. Officers recovered a bag containing several cans of spray paint and paint nozzles. Both juveniles were arrested and their pain supplies seized as evidence.
