Update: Off-Duty Boston Police Officer Injured

At approximately 4:30am this morning, officers from District E-5 responded to an emergency call reporting that an off-duty Boston Police officer had been injured as a result of a department firearm discharge. Officer Joseph Behnke was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and has been treated and released for a non-life threatening injury.Thus far, the investigation has revealed that there were two off-duty Boston Police officers at the scene of the incident. The facts and circumstances surrounding the discharge are the subject of an active internal investigation by the Boston Police Firearm Discharge Investigation Team.
