Two Arrested After Charlestown Bank Robbery

This afternoon at about 1:40pm, officers assigned to District 15 responded to a radio call for a robbery in progress at the Sovereign Bank at 437 Rutherford Avenue in Charlestown. Two suspects, Anthony Vardenski, 36, and Edward Reid, 43, both of Charlestown attempted to flee from the bank in a stolen vehicle refusing to stop for police officers. The suspects fled into an address on Tibbett’s Town Way in Charlestown where they were apprehended.Investigators from District 1 and the Bank Robbery Task Force searched the apartment that the suspects fled into and recovered an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency, as well as other items used in the robbery. Vardenski is charged with Unarmed Bank Robbery. Reid is charged with Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle and Unarmed Bank Robbery. Both suspects will be arraigned in the Charlestown District Court on Wednesday morning.
