Yesterday afternoon at about 4:50pm, officers from District 18 responded to 1312 Hyde Park Avenue on a report of a stabbing. On arrival the officers spoke with a witness who stated he observed a suspect abandon a bicycle and run up to a parked vehicle. A male and a female occupied the vehicle. The male sitting in the drivers seat was approached by the suspect who broke the drivers side window and began stabbing the victim. The victim exited the vehicle when the suspect was joined by a second suspect who chased the victim around the car. Both suspects then fled the area. The victim was transported to the Brigham and Woman’s Hospital and treated for multiple stab wounds.Detectives from District 18 were assigned to this case and were able to identify the suspect. Today at 2:47pm, officers patrolling the Hyde Park neighborhood observed the suspect riding a mountain bike on Pierce Street. The officers had information that this suspect was wanted in connection with yesterday’s stabbing. Officers stopped the suspect, positively identified him and placed him under arrest. John Fitz Mentor, 20, of Hyde Park was charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (knife) and Assault with Intent to Murder. He will be arraigned tomorrow morning in the West Roxbury District Court.
