The Boston Police Domestic Violence Unit has learned a little something from Christmas’ past. That’s why today marks the end of a successful fifth annual three-day “Silent Night” warrant sweep, ensuring 25 less domestic violence offenders will be home for the holidays.“The approaching holiday weekend should be a time of peace and joy for families in Boston,” said Police Commissioner Kathleen O’Toole. “Operation Silent Night, which has been done for the past five years in the Dorchester Court area, was extended citywide this year to mark the advent of the newly centralized citywide Domestic Violence Unit, located at the new Family Justice Center of Boston.”
Partnered with probation officers from all the Boston courts and members of the Youth Violence Strike Force, the sweep began early Tuesday morning, ending this afternoon with a total of 25 arrests for probation and restraining order violations by domestic violence offenders. Courts have agreed to hold the suspects over the holidays to ensure peaceful celebrations for the affected victims and children of the offenders.
“We haven’t gotten everybody we’re looking for,” said Lieutenant Detective Chuck Wilson, Commander of the Domestic Violence Unit, “and we’ll continue to look for those who escaped the net right up until Christmas morning. ”
