WARRANT SWEEPS & GUN ARRESTS

Starting on December 2, 2005 at about 4:00pm, Officers throughout the City began a three-day warrant sweep netting in 77 arrests. The sweep is ongoing and will continue through Sunday. Some of the warrants that people were arrested on were: Probation/ Parole violations, Failing to Register as Sex Offenders, Unlawful Possession of Firearms, Drugs Violation, Aggravated Assaults, and Assault with Intent to Murder. All of the arrested individuals will all be arraigned in various courts throughout the City on Monday morning.Last night at about 7:00pm, officers from the Tactical Bike Unit stopped two individuals acting suspicious in the area of Talbot Avenue and Norfolk Street. Further investigation into the two revealed one suspect in possession of a loaded firearm as well as being in default of a Chelsea Court warrant for violating the auto laws. Officers arrested Manuel Willis, 22, of Malden and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a firearm and Ammunition, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License. The second suspect was found to be in possession of a baseball size bag of marijuana. Bryant Santos, 17, of Malden was arrested and will be charged with Possession Class D substance. Both will be arraigned in the Dorchester District Court on Monday morning.
Five minutes after this incident on Talbot Avenue and Norfolk Street, officers assigned to the District 3 anti-crime unit observed and two individuals at 912 Morton Street. Officers approached the two people when one clutched his waist area and began to run away from the officers. After a lengthy foot chase over fences and through yards, officers arrested Gino Curry, 18, of Dorchester. Officers located a loaded firearm, which the suspect discarded when running from the police. Curry is charged with Trespassing, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition. He will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court tomorrow morning.
