Operation Home Safe Results in 43 Arrests

Boston Police, Transit Police, and Mayor Menino’s Office of Neighborhood Services, worked together again to address public safety concerns as well quality of life issues in Roxbury. The efforts of all three agencies focused on the Grove Hall neighborhood over this weekend. Operation Home Safe commenced early Friday 11/25/05 and concluded early Monday 11/28/05, focusing on prostitution, after hours parties, drugs, gangs, firearms and persons wanted on arrest warrants.The Boston Police Department employed high visibility and saturation patrols throughout the neighborhood with many specialized units including Rolling Thunder, Tactical Bicycle Squad, Mounted Unit, Drug Units and Licensing Unit, and the Youth Violence Strike Force. All of these units combined to serve arrest warrants, execute search warrants and conduct high visibility patrol throughout that targeted neighborhood.


While the Boston Police targeted the residential and commercial areas of the neighborhood, the Transit Police conducted safety checks on M.B.T.A. buses traveling through the area over the weekend.
Operation Home Safe’s public safety function concluded early this morning, but the Mayors office of neighborhood services will coordinate city agencies in the Grove Hall neighborhood to address issues such as street cleaning, street light repair, and public works issues. The planning of Operation Home Safe was in conjunction with many Grove Hall Community leaders, Police Officials, as well as representatives from the Mayor’s Office of neighborhood services.
A total of 43 Individuals were arrested during the operation, 1firearm was recovered, 125 grams of cocaine seized, 3 search warrants were executed, 165 Field Observation Reports were conducted, 365 Moving Violations Issued, 100 Parking violations, 7 License Premise Inspections, 29 Hackney inspections where 1 Taxi Medallion was Seized.
