On the evening of April 15, 2026, Boston Police officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a Shot Spotter activation in the area of 14 Abbotsford Street in Roxbury. Upon arrival, officers located numerous spent shell casings in the area and secured the scene. Several parked vehicles in the vicinity sustained ballistic damage. No victims were located at the scene.
District B-2 Detectives, along with the Youth Violence Strike Force, responded to process the scene and begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Through the course of that investigation, investigators identified five individuals believed to have been involved in the shooting.
Search warrants were subsequently executed at two Dorchester addresses connected to the investigation. During the execution of a search warrant at an apartment on Hillsboro Street, investigators recovered a handgun, a revolver, and a rifle, along with ammunition. A separate search warrant executed at an address on Kingsdale Street in Dorchester resulted in the recovery of additional evidence linked to the incident.
Javone Santiago, 29, of Dorchester, was arrested by Massachusetts State Police in Everett and was found in possession of a firearm loaded with ammunition. He was arraigned in Malden District Court on that charge and additionally faces charges out of Suffolk Superior Court including assault by means of a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and attempted assault and battery by discharge of a firearm.
Jared Smith, 23, of Dorchester, was taken into custody by the Boston Police Fugitive Unit, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and Walpole Police, at a residence in Walpole. He was transported to Boston for booking and faces the same charges as above out of Suffolk Superior Court.
Jahsan Mierez, 18, of Dorchester, was arrested by members of the Youth Violence Strike Force, Massachusetts State Police, and Boston Housing Police at a residence in Dorchester on a straight warrant. He faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and assault and battery with a firearm.
A 17-year-old male from Dorchester was also taken into custody on a juvenile warrant for firearm offenses in connection with this investigation and was arraigned in Suffolk County Juvenile Court.
