At approximately 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) arrested a 16-year-old in the area of 3368 Washington Street in Jamaica Plain on multiple firearm-related charges.
The arrest stemmed from an active and ongoing firearm investigation. During that investigation, YVSF officers developed information indicating the juvenile was likely in possession of a firearm.
Officers were aware that the juvenile would be in the area of the Community Academy in Jamaica Plain. YVSF members established surveillance in the area and at approximately 2:10 p.m., officers conducting surveillance observed the juvenile exit the school and walk toward Glen Road. As he moved through the driveway of 21 Glen Road, an officer observed him adjusting his front waistband in a manner consistent with carrying a concealed firearm. The juvenile then lifted his hoodie, allowing the officer to clearly observe a semiautomatic firearm tucked into his waistband.
Officers moved in to make a stop. The juvenile grabbed his waistband with his right hand and fled on foot, discarding his backpack as he ran. Turning onto Washington Street, he tossed the firearm beneath a stopped white SUV at the intersection of Washington Street and Glen Road. Officers heard a metallic object strike the pavement. One officer remained with the vehicle to secure the firearm while others continued the foot pursuit. The juvenile jumped several jersey barriers before reversing direction. YVSF personnel, with assistance from District E-13 officers, took him into custody without further incident.
The recovered firearm was identified as a Smith & Wesson SD9. It was loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition in the chamber. The magazine, a high-capacity feeding device, contained an additional live round.
The Massachusetts Department of Youth Services issued a detainer for the juvenile following his arrest.
The juvenile will be arraigned in West Roxbury District Juvenile Court on the following delinquency charges:
- Delinquent to Wit: Possession of a firearm without a license
- Delinquent to Wit: Possession of ammunition without an FID card
- Delinquent to Wit: Carrying a loaded firearm
- Delinquent to Wit: Possession of a large-capacity feeding device
