Two Large Capacity Firearms Recovered After a Traffic Stop in Dorchester

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Thomas Searcy, 29, of Boston, and Charles Phillips, 38, of Jamaica Plain, on multiple firearm related charges.

At approximately 9:26 PM, Boston Police Officers observed a motor vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign at Eldon Street and Washington Street. As the vehicle passed their cruiser, they also noticed it had excessively tinted windows.

Officers followed the vehicle and saw it pull over in front of 28 Hewins Street. They then activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

As officers approached, the occupants did not initially lower the windows. After several requests, both the driver and front-seat passenger partially complied. The driver provided a valid driver’s license, while the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and gave identifying information that was later determined to be false. When asked again, the passenger was unable to provide his true identity. During this interaction, officers observed the passenger repeatedly moving a bag between his feet and noticed a pocket knife clipped to his right pocket.

Following further investigation, officers ordered both occupants out of the vehicle. The front-seat passenger exited but attempted to walk away from the scene. He was placed in handcuffs to prevent him from fleeing. The driver exited the vehicle after multiple commands.

A pat frisk was conducted, and officers located a firearm inside the vehicle. District Detectives were called to the scene to secure the weapon. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a second firearm, as well as a pill bottle containing two plastic bags of colored pills believed to be ecstasy.

The first firearm was a Taurus G2C with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in a magazine capable of holding twelve total rounds. The second firearm was a Smith and Wesson SD40VE with one round in the chamber and thirteen rounds in the magazine.

Both suspects were placed under arrest and are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following offenses:
