South End Officers Arrest Suspect Following Boylston Street Larceny

On Friday, February 6, 2026, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) arrested a shoplifting suspect Michael Coty, 61, of Dorchester.

At approximately 5:52 PM, officers responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods, located at 760 Boylston Street, for a report of a larceny in progress. A description of the suspect and his direction of flight was broadcast to responding units.

Officers located the suspect standing in front of the Boston Public Library at the intersection of Dartmouth Street and Boylston Street. He was approached and taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered $383 worth of stolen merchandise, which was returned to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered additional stolen merchandise belonging to Vineyard Vines and a kiosk inside the Prudential Mall. The additional items were valued at $158 and were returned to the respective businesses.

Coty was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on the following charges:

  • Shoplifting by Asportation, Third Offense
  • Common and Notorious Thief
