A Foot Pursuit in Dorchester Leads to a Recovered Firearm

On Saturday, November 22, 2025, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested Dequan Mitchell, 28, of Mattapan, on various firearm charges.

About 10:50 PM, officers responded to the area of 146 Dorchester Avenue for a group of individuals loitering in front of the store. Upon arrival, officers immediately observed one of the individuals separate from the group and walk away from the area.

The suspect was seen to have his right hand clutched against his body as he walked towards Washington Street and Columbia Road. Officers exited their marked cruiser and approached the suspect who continued to walk at a faster pace.

Officers could now see a black metal object protruding from the suspect’s hooded jacket. Officers ordered the suspect to show his hands, but he refused. The suspect zipped up his right-side jacket pocket and began running in a full sprint. A foot pursuit ensued, and officers were able to apprehend the suspect at 63 Washington Street.

A pat frisk was conducted and a firearm was recovered from the suspect’s right jacket pocket. District Detectives responded to the scene and determined the firearm to be a SCCY CPX-2 with seven rounds in the magazine.

Mitchell was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following charges:

–          Carrying a Firearm without a License

–          Possession of a Firearm without an FID card

–          Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License

–          Possession of Ammunition without an FID card
