Today we celebrate “National Police Woman Day.”
We honor the achievements of women in the Boston Police Department and in departments across our nation. We are proud that the BPD is surpassing the national average for women entering our Department and among our leadership.
The recruitment and retention of women officers is a key part of our efforts at BPD, and National Police Woman Day provides a platform where law enforcement can advocate for stronger female representation. In 2023, Mayor Wu and Police Commissioner Cox signed the 30×30 Pledge.
Joining the initiative is a commitment for departments to have 30% of their recruits to be women by 2030. Putting words into action: the most recent Boston Police Academy Class had 28% women and the last two Academy Class President’s were women. To learn more visit @30x30initiative.
