Investigation Update: Following a six-month-long investigation led by the Boston Police Fugitive Unit, Gerald Vick, 31, of Dorchester, was located and apprehended earlier today in Lithia Springs, Georgia. Vick was taken into custody without incident by the U.S. Marshals Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Vick had been on the run since removing his court-ordered electronic monitoring bracelet the night before his scheduled trial. He was wanted in connection with the 2023 J’ouvert Parade shooting, during which eight individuals were shot.
This arrest is the result of an intensive investigation by the BPD Fugitive Unit, State, and Federal Partners. At the time of his arrest, Vick was wanted on a straight warrant out of Suffolk Superior Court for Eight Counts of Assault and Battery with a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Machine Gun, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Firearm use in Commission of a Felony.
The facts and circumstances surrounding the prior incident are as follows: At about 7:44 AM, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, officers witnessed gunfire and multiple people injured. Six adult males and two females were shot, five males and one female victims were transported to area hospitals and two additional victims with graze wounds from the shooting declined treatment. The victim’s injuries were all considered non-life threatening. Boston Police officers administered tourniquets and other first aid/ life saving techniques until Boston EMS arrived.
Our Officers’ diligence also resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of two firearms on scene. Officers assigned to District B-3 arrested Gerald Vick, 30, and Dwayne Francis, 30, both of Dorchester, on scene shortly after the shootings. Officers recovered from Vick a 9mm pistol with a large capacity magazine, equipped with a “Glock switch” that enabled the firearm to fire continuously. Francis was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol. Both suspects were transported to District B-3 and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and were arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
