Arrest Made in Dorchester Following Firearm Recovery by B-3 Officers

On Friday, June 20, 2025, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested 24-year-old Edwin Gomez of Leominster, MA on multiple firearm-related charges following a subject stop at 230 Columbia Road in Dorchester.

At approximately 6:30 PM, officers were patrolling the area of Devon Street and Columbia Road in response to a prior radio call involving a traffic stop near 157 Washington Street, during which one firearm was recovered and the vehicle’s operator fled on foot. While canvassing the area, officers were updated that two males, one matching the suspect description, had been seen exiting 229 Columbia Road and running across the street while clutching his waistband. The individuals stopped in front of a storefront at 230 Columbia Road.

As officers approached, one of the individuals, later identified as Gomez, appeared hypervigilant and attempted to avoid contact. When officers exited their vehicle, Gomez separated from the second male and entered the store. Inside, officers observed him loitering without any intent to make a purchase. When they attempted to engage him in conversation, he became confrontational and refused to step outside.

Given the totality of the circumstances, officers initiated a frisk. Gomez attempted to flee but was quickly detained. During the frisk, officers recovered a Glock 23 firearm from his waistband. The firearm was equipped with a flashlight-laser attachment and contained a 15-round magazine loaded with 12 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition. There was no round chambered at the time of recovery. Detectives responded to process the scene and seize the firearm.

Gomez was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:

• Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
• Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
• Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
• Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
• Resisting Arrest

An additional firearm recovered from the earlier traffic stop at 157 Washington Street was determined to be a Glock 22 .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol. It was equipped with a magazine capable of holding 15 rounds and was found to contain 13 live rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. Officers and detectives from District B-3 were able to identify the operator who fled from that incident, and charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
