On Thursday, May 15, 2025, Officers assigned to District D-4 (South End/Back Bay) conducted a targeted enforcement initiative known as Operation Safe Scooter. This operation was launched in response to community concerns about unsafe moped and scooter operation along Boylston Street and throughout the Back Bay area.
With a focus on improving public safety for residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors, Officers prioritized enforcement efforts to address dangerous and unlawful vehicle operation.
As a result of the operation:
- Eight mopeds/scooters were towed
- Eight operators were summonsed to court for various motor vehicle violations
- One individual was arrested
Officers arrested 20-year-old Trayvon Tercy of Mattapan for Receiving Stolen Property after discovering he was operating a stolen scooter in a reckless manner. The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its rightful owner. Tercy is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
The eight other operators who were stopped during the initiative have also been summonsed to appear in Boston Municipal Court.
In addition, Officers observed approximately six moped/scooter operators who, upon noticing the police presence, fled the area at high speeds, believed to be operating either outside their license class or in violation of other laws. Several others were seen quickly changing direction onto nearby streets to avoid contact with law enforcement.
The Boston Police Department remains committed to improving traffic safety and will continue to conduct enforcement operations across the city.
