On Saturday, May 10, 2025, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Tyre Ely, 19, of Quincy, for various firearm related offenses.
At about 7:30 PM, officers were on directed patrol in the area of Mattapan Square. While traveling on Blue Hill Avenue, they observed a vehicle double parked with excessive window tint. The vehicle pulled into traffic, and officers conducted a U-turn to follow the vehicle.
While following a short distance behind the vehicle, officers could see the operator fail to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk and swerve around another vehicle. The driver then abruptly stopped in the area of 620 River Street.
At this time, officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers made contact with the operator of the vehicle, and requested his license and registration. While reaching for the registration, the operator stopped, and told the officers to query the vehicle without it.
After further investigation, the driver was requested to exit the vehicle which he was hesitant and had to be assisted with standing up. As he exited the vehicle, a firearm fell to the ground from the rear of his body. The suspect was immediately placed into handcuffs, and the firearm was recovered.
Detectives were requested to respond to the scene, and process the scene. The firearm was determined to be a Taurus S/W with fifteen rounds in the magazine and none in the chamber.
Ely was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following offenses:
– Possession of a Firearm Without a License
– Possession of Ammunition without a License
– Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm Without a License
– Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
