Suspect Arrested After a Stabbing in Brighton

At about 5:58 PM, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, officers assigned to District D-14 (Allston/Brighton) responded to the area of 479 Cambridge Street for a report of a person stabbed. Upon arrival, officers observed an adult male suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Officers began to render medical aid, and requested Boston EMS to respond to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers were advised that the suspect exited his vehicle and approached the victim’s vehicle. A verbal altercation ensued which quickly turned violent.

Transit Police notified officers that an MBTA bus was behind the involved vehicle during the incident and had camera footage of the suspect. Officers determined that the suspect’s vehicle fled the area towards North Beacon Street.

Officers were able to broadcast a description of the suspect and the fleeing vehicle. After further investigation, detectives determined that the suspect was involved in a prior road rage incident with the victim that occurred on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Boston Police Operations notified officers that Massachusetts State Police located the vehicle traveling on Storrow Drive. Mass State Police and officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) were able to stop the vehicle in the area of Clarendon Street and Back Street.

John Burgo, 40, of Brockton was placed under arrest and charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Assault to Murder, and Assault and Battery. He is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court.
