Mattapan Officers Recovered a Large Capacity Firearm After a Traffic Stop

At about 1:06 AM, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Amir Massey, 32, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Columbia Road and Seaver Street when they observed a motor vehicle with an inoperable front headlight on the passenger side. As the vehicle passed by officers, they observed that the rear lights were also not illuminated.

Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers approached the vehicle and observed that the rear driver’s side tail light was cracked and broken. Officers made contact with the occupants and became aware that the front passenger was not wearing his seatbelt. Officers requested identification from both the operator and passenger.

After further investigation, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle. Officers conducted a pat frisk of the motor vehicle and recovered a firearm from inside. The firearm was later determined to be a SAR 9 with one round in the chamber and sixteen rounds in the magazine.

Massey was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 4th Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon 3rd Offense, Resist Arrest, Firearm Violation with 2 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
