At about 12:09 PM, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Deandrew Pinto, 20, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Talbot Avenue and Welles Avenue when they observed a motor vehicle operating at a high rate of speed. Officers were able to catch up to the vehicle, and activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Dorchester Avenue and St. Marks Road.
Officers made contact with the occupants and were advised by the operator that he only had a learner’s permit. Officers observed the front passenger to not be wearing a seat belt, and had an open bottle of alcohol by his feet. Officers conducted an inquiry of the operator’s learner’s permit and determined that it was suspended.
At this time, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle. When the front passenger exited the vehicle, he pinned his arms to his waist and turned away from officers. Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs and recovered a firearm from his waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 48 with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine.
Pinto was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Person Under 21 Possession of Liquor, Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, and Seatbelt Violation. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
