A-7 DCU Recovered a Loaded Firearm in East Boston

At about 4:15 PM, on Thursday, April 4, 2024, members of the Drug Control Unit of District A-7 (East Boston) arrested Raymond Badgett, 36, of Jamaica Plain, of firearm and drug charges.

Officers were conducting an ongoing drug investigation in the area of 2 Jacobee Road. Officers observed a male suspect walking to a fence, and reached over to give an unknown individual an item. Officers then observed the male suspect walk towards a motor vehicle and make contact with the occupants. After a brief interaction, the motor vehicle drove away, and the suspect walked towards his motor vehicle.

At this time, officers believed that a street level drug transaction had transpired. Officers requested a marked cruiser to respond to the scene to conduct a motor vehicle stop. Officers were able to stop the vehicle in the area of Decatur Street and London Street.

Officers made contact with the operator, and advised him of the motor vehicle stop. Officers observed the suspect reach into his waistband, as if he was attempting to conceal an item. Officers requested the suspect to exit the vehicle, and conducted a pat frisk. Officers recovered a loaded firearm and marijuana from inside the vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a ghost gun with eight rounds in the magazine.

Badgett was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute class D. He is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
