Firearm Recovered After a Foot Chase in Dorchester

At about 10:27 AM, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Jaraiel Wiggins, 23, of Mattapan, on firearm related charges.

Officers were conducting an ongoing firearm investigation in the area of Corbet Street and Evans Street. Officers exited their cruiser and approached the suspect. When the suspect observed officers, he changed direction and crossed the street with disregard for motor vehicle traffic.

Officers were able to reposition, and approached the suspect again, but at this time he immediately ran and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect in the area of 50 Corbet Street. Officers recovered a firearm from the immediate area where the suspect was located. The recovered firearm was later determined to be a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield with one round in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine.  

Wiggins was placed under arrest and charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and trespassing. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
