Traffic Stop in Roxbury Leads to Recovery of a Loaded Firearm

At about 9:00 PM, on Sunday, March 3, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Marquice Rivera, 25, of Lynn, on firearm related charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Seaver Street and Humboldt Avenue when they observed a motor vehicle exit a parking lot in front them. The vehicle quickly made a right hand turn back into the parking lot, and officers followed the vehicle.

The operator parked the vehicle, left it running, and began to walk quickly away. Officers stopped the suspect, and requested his driver’s license, which he could not produce. Officers placed the suspect under arrest, and approached the motor vehicle.

Officers observed a second occupant in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, and requested his identification. The passenger could not produce an active driver’s license. At this time, officers conducted a search of the motor vehicle, and located a firearm from inside. The firearm was later determined to be a Ruger LCP 380 with one round in the chamber, and six rounds in the magazine.

Rivera was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. The passenger was promptly released from the scene.
