At approximately 6:35 PM on Sunday, February 25, 2024, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) arrested David Gong, 33, of Newton on charges of attempted arson and destruction of property.
Officers were dispatched to 22 Liberty Dr for reports of a vandalism in progress, upon arrival the officers learned that the suspect had been refused service due to being intoxicated upon arriving at the establishment. The suspect threw his water at the bar and then made his way to the restroom where he engaged in destructive behavior and upon exiting informed the staff that there was a fire in the bathroom. Boston Fire responded and extinguished a fire that was set in the trash barrel of the bathroom. Officers were able to successfully locate the suspect outside the establishment and placed him under arrest.
Gong will be charged with Burning of a Public Building, Burning of personal Property, Attempt to Burn Public Building, Attempted Arson of Dwelling House, and Malicious Destruction of Property.
