Firearm Recovered After a Traffic Stop in Roxbury

At about 3:47 PM, on Monday, December 18, 2023, officers assigned to the Drug Control Unit and Anti-Crime Unit of District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Luis Fernando Guzman-Ortiz, 30, of Andover, on firearm related charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Washington Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard when they observed a motor vehicle with a defective tail light. Officers followed the motor vehicle and observed it park in a restricted parking spot in front of District B-2. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

Officers made contact with the operator, and conducted a CJIS inquiry of his driver’s license which revealed that it was suspended. Officers handcuffed the suspect, and advised him that his motor vehicle would be towed. Officers conducted a motor vehicle inventory search, and recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a SCCY 9mm with nine rounds in the magazine.

Guzman-Ortiz was placed under arrest and charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and operating after suspended license. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
