Swift Investigation Leads to Arrest in Armed Robbery of Dorchester Delivery Driver

On Friday, October 23, 2026, at about 11:43 AM, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of 96 Normandy Street in Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim, a delivery driver, who reported that a masked man approached him as he returned to his vehicle, displayed a handgun, demanded his gold chain, and ripped it from his neck before fleeing on foot toward Devon Street. The victim was not injured.

District B-2 detectives monitoring the call immediately began reviewing city cameras in the area. Investigators observed a man matching the suspect’s description run onto Devon Street and get into the passenger side of a gray Ford Explorer. Detectives captured an image of the vehicle and shared it with surrounding districts and outside agencies. Investigators were able to track the vehicle as it left Boston and traveled north on Interstate 93.

With assistance from the Massachusetts State Police, troopers stopped the vehicle in Lawrence that afternoon. Investigators confirmed that the driver was wearing clothing matching the suspect seen on video. He was transported to District B-2 and placed under arrest.

Eury Martin Avalo Baez, 32, of Dorchester, was charged with Armed and Masked Robbery, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, and Larceny from a Person. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

Following the arrest, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant on the vehicle and recovered a .45 caliber firearm and a face mask.
