At about 6:15 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) conducted a traffic stop in the area of American Legion Highway, resulting in multiple arrests for active warrants and firearm-related charges.
While on directed patrol in the Franklin Field area, officers observed a black Honda sedan idling at the corner of Westview Way and Ames Street. Officers’ attention was drawn to the vehicle due to its idling status and heavily tinted windows. As officers continued their patrol, they observed the vehicle leave the intersection and travel to the traffic light at Westview Street and Blue Hill Avenue. Officers then observed the vehicle make a right turn onto Blue Hill Avenue despite a posted “No Turn on Red” sign and without using a turn signal.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop but were initially unable to do so due to congested traffic. Officers were able to safely stop the vehicle in the area of American Legion Highway.
As officers approached the vehicle, they observed the operator, identified as Starlin Bonnet, 24, of Roslindale, quickly reach behind the front seats with his right arm toward the rear passenger-side floor before returning to an upright position.
Officers also identified three passengers: Edwin Pinet, 40, of Roslindale; Brendan McManus, 36, of Hyde Park; and Jessica Colby, 36, of Hanson. Officers also observed a black fanny pack on the floor of the vehicle near the feet of one of the passengers.
After further investigation, officers determined that the three passengers had active arrest warrants. All occupants were removed from the vehicle and pat-frisked. During a pat-frisk of Bonnet, officers recovered a medium-sized knife from his person.
Officers then searched the vehicle and located the fanny pack. During the search, officers felt what they immediately recognized as a firearm. All occupants were placed in handcuffs, and district detectives were requested to respond to the scene.
An inquiry revealed that none of the occupants had a License to Carry. District detectives arrived on scene and began processing the firearm. The firearm was determined to be a black Taurus G3 semi-automatic 9mm pistol containing fifteen (15) rounds of ammunition, with one (1) round loaded in the chamber.
During a booking search of Bonnet, officers recovered a sandwich bag containing multiple additional bags. Inside the bags, officers observed a brown substance believed to be heroin, a mixture of brown and white powder believed to be heroin and crack cocaine, and three loose plastic bags containing residue believed to be heroin. Officers also observed two additional plastic bags, each containing one round of live ammunition: one (1) 9mm round and one (1) .22 caliber round.
Starlin Bonnet is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:
- Carrying a Firearm Without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
- Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Possession of Class A Drugs
- Possession of Class B Drugs
- Fail to Stop or Yield at Red Light
- Fail to Signal
Edwin Pinet is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charge:
- One (1) Warrant: Larceny Offenses
Brendan McManus is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:
- Three (3) Warrants: Drug Possession
Jessica Colby is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:
- Four (4) Warrants: Distribution of Class A; Drug Possession Offenses; Various Drug and Motor Vehicle Offenses; Shoplifting
