BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Detective John J. Mulligan, who was killed in the line of duty 33 years ago today. On September 26, 1993, Detective Mulligan was shot and killed in the Walgreens parking lot on American Legion Highway in Roslindale.
Detective Mulligan was a 27-year veteran of the Boston Police Department and was 52 years old at the time of his death. He was survived by his two sons.
Detective Mulligan is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Brighton. His name is inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Panel 30, West Line 19. His name is also engraved on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and on the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston.
