On Saturday, September 12, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Kyle Cooper, 19, of Dorchester, on multiple firearm charges.
About 6:30 PM, officers were on patrol in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Glenway Street when they observed a motor vehicle with extremely dark window tint. Police conducted a query of the vehicle’s registration which revealed that it had been revoked as it was uninsured and unregistered.
The vehicle made a right turn and immediately stopped in front of 37 Glenway Street. Officers activated their marked cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. The officers approached the vehicle and requested the operator’s license and registration. Due to the excessive tint, the windows were requested to be rolled down. No one inside of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt, and multiple marijuana cigarettes were seen in an ashtray in the center console.
Officers advised the occupants to exit the vehicle as it would need to be towed. While conducting a motor vehicle inventory search, officers recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle. The suspect, Cooper, attempted to run from the scene, but was quickly handcuffed.
The firearm was determined to be a ghost gun with one round in the chamber and an unloaded magazine that was capable of holding fifteen total rounds. Four loose rounds of ammunition were also recovered from inside a backpack.
Cooper was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the following charges:
– Carry a firearm without a license
– Possession of ammunition without an FID card
– Possession of a large capacity feeding device
– Carry a loaded firearm without a license
