At approximately 3:10 AM on Friday, September 4, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old male and the recovery of a loaded firearm in the area of Harvard Street and Johnston Road in Dorchester.
While on patrol in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Abbot Street, officers observed a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers activated their emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Harvard Street and Johnston Road. Officers approached the vehicle and spoke to the operator.
As additional officers arrived on scene, the front passenger began displaying anxious behavior indicated by him breathing heavily, refusing eye contact with officers, and speaking in a barely audible tone. Officers removed the occupants from the vehicle and immediately located a firearm in the front passenger’s waistband. The suspect was taken into custody. The remaining occupants were identified and released from the scene.
The firearm was determined to be a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun loaded with four rounds of live ammunition.
The 17-year-old suspect, of Quincy, is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Delinquent to wit; Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card.
The operator was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for a violation of the auto laws.
